Partly — dogs are allowed in some of it
Leashed dogs are allowed at Maroon Bells. The enforceable rule is White River National Forest Order 2025-07 (1 Sep 2025 - 31 Dec 2028), which from the Maroon Bells Day Use Area to the Wilderness boundary prohibits 'possessing a dog, except if it is on a leash six feet or less in length' - a leash requirement, not a ban. Dogs are also allowed on the RFTA shuttle from Aspen Highlands, and a shuttle or parking reservation is required to reach the site. Two things to know: the official Aspen Chamber visitor FAQ asks people not to take dogs on the Scenic Loop Trail past Maroon Lake because of surprise moose encounters - treat that as a strong advisory and honour it, even though we could not find it written as a legal prohibition in any Forest Service order; and dogs are banned outright in the Conundrum Hot Springs zone of the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. Read the signs at the trailhead, which carry the current word.
Where dogs ARE allowed
Leashed dogs (6 ft or shorter) are legally permitted throughout the Maroon Bells Scenic Area from the Day Use Area to the Wilderness boundary, and on most trails. Dogs are allowed on the RFTA shuttle from Aspen Highlands. Leashed dogs are allowed at the Silver Bar / Silver Bell / Silver Queen campgrounds and around Crater Lake. Leashed dogs are allowed throughout the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness EXCEPT the Conundrum Hot Springs Zone, where they are banned outright.
