WagOn Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 23, 2026

WagOn (“WagOn,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a dog-walking app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the WagOn mobile app (the “App”), how we use it, and the choices you have. By using WagOn, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and any profile details you add, such as a display name, profile photo (avatar), and an optional Instagram handle.

Your dogs. Information you add about your dogs, including name, breed, photos, sex, birthday, weight, personality tags, and a shareable “friend code.”

Location information. With your permission, WagOn accesses your device’s precise location in order to: (a) record the route, distance, and map of a walk while you are walking; (b) show your position and nearby points on the map; and (c) determine the general area or place name for a walk.

Background location. If you turn on Keep recording when screen is off in Settings and grant “Always” location access, WagOn continues recording your route while the App is in the background or your phone is locked — but only during a walk you have started. Recording stops when the walk ends. WagOn does not track your location at any other time, and the setting is off unless you turn it on.

Walk activity. Records of your walks, including routes, distance, duration, dates, and any photos and notes you attach.

Photos. Photos you choose to add — profile photos, dog photos, and walk photos. WagOn uses your camera to scan a friend’s QR code and, optionally, to take photos; it uses your photo library when you pick an existing image.

Community map contributions. Points, pins, or places you add to the shared community map.

App activity. Information generated as you use the App’s game features, such as experience points (XP), streaks, levels, badges, and territory or area achievements.

We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not knowingly collect information beyond what is described here.

How we use your information

What is visible to others

Some information is shared by design when you choose to use social features:

You control whether to use these features. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing, and we never sell information that identifies you or your dog. The one exception is described in the next section: statistics that have been aggregated so that nobody can be identified, and only if you have switched that on.

Anonymised insights (off unless you turn it on)

WagOn has a setting called Share anonymised insights, in Settings on your profile. It is off unless you turn it on, and turning it off again takes effect immediately.

If you turn it on, we may include details about your dogs in aggregated statistics that we share with partners such as pet food and pet health companies. Aggregated means combined with many other dogs so that neither you nor your dog can be identified — for example, “Shiba Inus in Brooklyn walk an average of 4 km per week”.

The details that may be included are non-identifying facts about a dog: breed, age band, size band, whether they are neutered, activity levels such as walk frequency and distance, the general area at neighbourhood level, and any health and routine details you have chosen to add, such as food type or brand.

What is never included: your name, email address, or account details; your dog’s name; any photo; any walk route, GPS trace, or precise location; your Instagram handle; any free-text note you have written; and any figure specific enough to identify a single dog or household. We do not provide partners with a way to contact you, and we do not allow them to re-identify anyone.

This setting does not change what other WagOn users can see, and it is separate from the social features described above.

Where the law requires a legal basis for this, we rely on your consent, and we record when you gave or withdrew it. You can withdraw at any time by switching the setting off; we will stop including your dogs in statistics compiled after that point, though we cannot recall an aggregate report that has already been shared.

How your information is stored and protected

WagOn’s accounts, database, and photo storage are hosted by our service provider, Supabase, which processes and stores data on our behalf. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections, and access is restricted by per-user security rules so that you can only access your own records and content you have chosen to share.

When you look at a map in the App, the map itself comes from Google Maps. To draw it, your device’s IP address and the part of the world you are looking at are sent to Google. We do not send Google your account, your dogs, or your saved walks. What Google does with that request is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

Share cards are different. The walk poster, the dog card and the challenge certificate are drawn on your own device out of your own walk data. They carry no map imagery, and nothing is fetched from a map service while one is made.

When the App works out the name of the area a walk happened in, it asks the geocoder built into your phone, which on iPhone is Apple’s. It sends a single point from the middle of the route, never the whole route, and it does this once per walk.

When the App fills in what the weather was like on a walk, so you do not have to, it asks Open-Meteo, a weather service. It sends one point from the middle of the route rounded to about a kilometre, plus the date and hour of the walk — never the route, never your dog, and nothing that identifies you or your account. It does this once per walk, and if it fails the App simply leaves the weather blank for you to fill in yourself.

Data retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete specific content (such as a dog, a walk, or a map point), it is removed from your account. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your associated personal information, except where we are required to retain it by law.

Your choices and rights

Children’s privacy

WagOn is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

International users

WagOn is operated from [your country], and your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
